BLOG-- IN
- What I like about blogging.
WHat I like the most about blogging we are free to express ourselves--well it's suppose to be that we are free to express ourselves...the color, template, music, and videos..- What I do not like about blogging.
it took so long to upload a vid...And when we have to blog according to topics..
- What have I gained from blogging eg. Language skills, improved fluency, critical thinking, improved thought processes, technology skills etc.
Knowledge and experience about many things...Technology and nontechnology..especially shared by friends.
- How?
When reading friends' blog and exploring others blog
- what I like about the course
Exploring new things...like create video and edit photo
- what I do not like about the course
Not enough time to synthesize the input...Loads of task.
- what I have learnt from the course
Using technology in the classroom?
- what they do not expect but have learnt from the course
Video editing...
- what they expect but have not learnt from the course.
How to manipulate REALIA around us and non-technological materials around us to be used in the classroom.
- if they can change anything about the course, state what it is and explain.
The syllabus should not ONLY focus on technological resources, but also the non-technological one. It should be balance...Of course you do not want this knowledge of 1 semester turns to craps when we are posted in some rural district. Come to Sabah, and you'll understand what I mean.

Technology to young learners
As we approach the 21st century, we begin to see a major paradigm shift in instructional methods to reflect the challenges present in today's society. For a student to be competitive in a global market, we can no longer rely simply on traditional educational strategies. To meet these demands, one must supplement and/or replace traditional methods of instruction with innovative educational experiences. Some strategies include cooperative, discovery and inquiry learning activities; however, to facilitate these methods, schools must implement technology in the learning environment. Technology and multimedia applications should be used as a tool to enhance a child's educational experience by creating a variety of methods to meet special needs, teach children how to manage information, and allow for opportunities to develop higher level thinking skills.
We find ourselves today, in a classroom full of students as diverse as the world in which we live. Research on the human brain has shown that not all students learn by one particular strategy. Some students do well with the tried and true method of direct instruction, but the majority of students do not. To reach the most number of students, the teacher needs to create a variety of learning experiences. The first and most simplistic way is to use technology to supplement classroom instruction. Technology will help meet these demands is by allowing students to interact with information within a different medium. There are numerous multimedia programs designed to meet the special needs of diverse learners. For example, a student learning English as a second language would benefit from a computer program where they could learn the language at their own pace. They could spend as much time as needed on the computer, without feeling pressured to keep up with 30 other students. Another type of learner may memorize facts and details better if the information is presented in musical form. One can not expect all teachers to teach in this fashion, but a computer program or multimedia application may have the capabilities of doing so without taking additional time away from other students. By utilizing such programs, a single teacher can employ many more resources and methods within one classrooms, rather than teaching the information in one manner to all students.
Another valuable way technology should be used in the classroom is to teach students how to manage information. Our generation has commonly been referred to as living in the 'information society.' Never before in the history of the world have people had so much access to information. With the click of a mouse or even a remote control, one can know what is a happening anywhere in the world, at any given time. Our students must become information literate; our democratic society depends on this fact. Where better to teach our children these skills than in the classroom. By incorporating technology in the curriculum, students will become exposed to a variety of modes of communication - both as sender and receiver. A teacher may utilize the vast amount of information on the Internet to help students develop the skills necessary to determine a reliable source of information from an unreliable. Also, students will learn how to analyze and synthesize information gathered from a variety of resources and possibly develop a multi-media presentation to share their research with their classmates. Finally, students are also able to interact with people around the world, thanks to technology - whether it is an expert on a particular subject they are studying or other students researching a similar question. What ever the particular scenario may be, technology allows teachers to expand the four walls of the traditional classroom and explore the world in which we live.

BEING realistic
1. Sense of Humor
A sense of humor can help you become a successful teacher. Your sense of humor can relieve tense classroom situations before they become disruptions. A sense of humor will also make class more enjoyable for your students and possibly make students look forward to attending and paying attention. Most importantly, a sense of humor will allow you to see the joy in life and make you a happier person as you progress through this sometimes stressful career.
2. A Positive Attitude
A positive attitude is a great asset in life. You will be thrown many curve balls in life and especially in the teaching profession. A positive attitude will help you cope with these in the best way. For example, you may find out the first day of school that you are teaching Algebra 2 instead of Algebra 1. This would not be an ideal situation, but a teacher with the right attitude would try to focus on getting through the first day without negatively impacting the students.3. High Expectations
An effective teacher must have high expectations. You should strive to raise the bar for your students. If you expect less effort you will receive less effort. You should work on an attitude that says that you know students can achieve to your level of expectations, thereby giving them a sense of confidence too. This is not to say that you should create unrealistic expectations. However, your expectations will be one of the key factors in helping students learn and achieve.4. Consistency
In order to create a positive learning environment your students should know what to expect from you each day. You need to be consistent. This will create a safe learning environment for the students and they will be more likely to succeed. It is amazing that students can adapt to teachers throughout the day that range from strict to easy. However, they will dislike an environment in which the rules are constantly changing.5. Fairness
Many people confuse fairness and consistency. A consistent teacher is the same person from day to day. A fair teacher treats students equally in the same situation. For example, students complain of unfairness when teachers treat one gender or group of students differently. It would be terribly unfair to go easier on the football players in a class than on the cheerleaders. Students pick up on this so quickly, so be careful of being labeled unfair.6. Flexibility
One of the tenets of teaching should be that everything is in a constant state of change. Interruptions and disruptions are the norm and very few days are 'typical'. Therefore, a flexible attitude is important not only for your stress level but also for your students who expect you to be in charge and take control of any situation.

Assigment 2 ~RIP~
Alhamdulillah...today is the day we pass up the assignment 2.
This assignment is about using and manipulating 2 videos to be used in the classroom. The first video is the compulsory video, The Earth Song by Micheal jackson. Then, we can choose 1 video according to our preferences and also have to be manipulated to be used in the ESL classroom.
Then, today Puan gave us our assignment 3. It is about doing lesson plan for 4 different days, according to 4 different skills. The date due for the assignment is 14th of October, after the Hari Raya holidays. We have to do 3 lesson plans of 1 period, and the other 1 lesson plan of 2 periods. I have a little bit confusion regarding the time of each period. Because, as far as I know, 1 period is equal to 30-35 minutes only. But, for these assignment, 1 period considered as 40 minutes and for the 2 periods lesson plan, we are going to make a 80-minutes lesson plan.
Other than that, we also learn something new today. Puan asked us to explore Microsoft Publisher. Actually this is not my first time using Publisher. Before this during chemistry class, we have to prepare the notes using Publishers. So we have afew tasks to do, for example name card, pamplets, poster and book cover. We have to do this in pairs.
Another thing is we have to do the newslater 'olok-olok' using Publisher. We are going to do this in groups of 5 or 6. Besides that, another one is we have to prepare power point presentation based on the notes given. We are going to present it nextweek.
Good luck everybody! =)

I feel so glad with the fact that our 2nd assignment had been postponed. Thank you very much to Puan Foziah for her mercy. Now, I feel better to work on my Michael Jackson and my cute elephant video clip.
I found that, the Michael Jackson's video clip is quite hard to be exploited to be used in the classroom. This is because when I watch the video clip, I realize that the video is full with deep meaning, that is what had happened to earth is because our own fault. When I go through the lyrics, it also need 'the third eye' to understand the phrase, such as 'what about killing fields', 'the crying earth the weeping shores' and 'the heavens are falling down'. However, I admit that the message brought by the video clip is very crucial. The song is also good and enjoyable. The video is quite funny at certain part heheheh...
The idea of using Michael Jackson's songs in the classroom reminds me of my school years. My teacher used to used 'We are the world' song in my class. I tried to find its video clips...

Even it is quite hard, I hope with a bit of modification of the resource, I hope the product will be suitable to be used in the classroom and young learners.
Ganbatte!!
